John Warren and Jonathan Mitchley will speak about the development and successes of their unique student-centric event, Botanical University Challenge.
Established in 2016 at RBG Kew, Botanical University Challenge is a grassroots organisation with a small budget and big ideas and even bigger plans for the future! The brainchild of three botanists and educators, Jonathan Mitchley, John Warren, and Paul Ashton, BUC is a fun, friendly event designed to bring together student botanists from across the UK and Ireland to celebrate plants and the talent and knowledge of our next generation of botanists.
The presentation will touch on the history of BUC and detail the extraordinary growth it has experienced post-pandemic, as well as the plans for the future. These include the development of a student-lead newsletter, The Thymes, further development of the quiz and the potential for an international BUC. The speakers will also outline their plans for developing BUC as a platform to support plant-aware students and early career botanists through more live events and online activities.
BUC2023 will take place online on 15th and 22nd February with live finals at the University of Nottingham on 5th July. All are encourage to join the livestreaming of BUC2023, with further information and links provided during the talk.
