Joint RES Daneway Meeting

Description
The BSBI is excited to partner with the Royal Entomological Society on this joint meeting - a new venture to bring different interests together regarding conservation management for plants and invertebrates. The Large Blue butterfly should be in flight and it will form one aspect of the excursion. Other invertebrates of interest include the Rugged Oil Beetle and Pearl-bordered Fritillary. Plants of interest include Anacamptis morio (Green-winged Orchid), Prunella laciniata (Cut-leaved Selfheal) and Galium pumilum (Slender Bedstraw).
Numbers are limited to 15 members from each society and there will be a small charge (£40) to cover planning and for lunch and transport.

11.00 Meet Sapperton Village Hall
11.15 Welcome & introductions from the RES and BSBI Presidents
11.30-12.00 Paul Hackman (Natural England) – calcareous grassland management for invertebrates and plants.
12.00-12.30 Jeremy Thomas (Emeritus Professor, University of Oxford) – general habitat management for invertebrates with emphasis on butterflies
12.30-13.00 Sarah Meredith (RES Conservation Project Officer) – Daneway Banks ecology & management
13.00-13.50 Lunch
13.50 Mini bus pick up at Sapperton Village Hall to Daneway (2 x relay Journeys only take 2-3 mins – route is not walkable)
14.00-17.00 Daneway Site visit
17.00 First Minibus returns to Sapperton village Hall
Travel, arrival and parking logistics:
There is street parking available near the Village Hall. Please do not park at Daneway itself; there are restrictions in place to prevent this.
