Venue information:

The Mitford family once called this handsome Cotswolds house a home — and it inspired Nancy's greatest novel

Asthall Manor near Burford epitomises the genre of Cotswolds architecture that for more than a century has been celebrated in the pages of Country Life.

It is one of England's most precious places - a Jacobean manor house surrounded by a garden, woodland and meadows that blend into the glorious Windrush valley landscape beyond. It is a private home that regularly welcomes visitors to wander its meandering paths, discover its secret spaces and connect with nature, art, and each other.

Flow of the Day:

  • Morning grounding, welcome circle, and intention setting

  • Learning and Practicing Energy Healing

  • Walk and Woodland Meditation
  • Lunch
  • Practicing Energy Healing
  • Grounding healing sessions
  • Closing circle

At School of Nature, we guide people back to their natural rhythm - through earth connection, embodied presence, and creative expression. We believe in the power of retreat spaces that nourish the soul and restore our connection with the land, each other, and ourselves.

Our Soil to Soil retreat is a women-only, nature-immersive experience rooted in our connection to plants and the land. It offers a full day of grounding, creativity, wild swimming, and seasonal ceremony - honouring the cycles of nature and the wisdom within each of us.

Lara Cowan

“Laras gift and knowledge of the land is exception.” Alicky Gravel, author and integrated mind and body practitioner.

Lara is an RHS and Great Dixter-trained garden consultant, designer, creative plants-woman, geomancer, energy healer, earth acupuncturist and nature therapy advocate. She ran a series on BBC Radio Oxford called ‘Soil to Soul’ and has been interviewed on BBC Gardener’s World about her work. Her story, and the healing space she has created for others, has been published in an article by Thrive ‘The gardening for health charity’. She is the Founder of Botanic Shed School of Nature, a community of gardeners, farmers, healers and therapists that focuses on nature as a balm for the soul and society.

Botanic Shed advocates for nature-led decision making and runs a programme of nature-based retreats and events accessible online and in person. The club’s supporters include the eco-activist the Hon Zoë Tryon and the conservationist Ian Redmond, OBE.

“I have experienced first hand just how profoundly gardening and nature connection can support us through lifes challenges. I was disheartened by how little recognition there is for the power of gardening as a self‑prescribed, preventative form of mental health care. That realization is what led me to make teaching gardening — and nature‑connection skills — my life’s work.”
