Mahjong GUIDED Play & Aperitivo Night at Bottega

Join us for a fun and social evening of American Mahjong guided play, paired with a relaxed aperitivo experience at Bottega.

This event is designed for players who already know the basics of Mahjong and are looking to practice, build confidence, and enjoy the game in a supportive and welcoming setting. You’ll become more comfortable reading the card, recognizing patterns, and developing your strategy while playing alongside fellow Mahjong enthusiasts.

If you’ve attended one of our “Learn to Mahjong” sessions, you’re perfectly suited for this experience.

Is Guided Play Right for You?

Before booking, ask yourself these questions:

• Can you set up a Mahjong game without assistance?
• Do you know how to choose a hand and work toward it during play?
• Do you understand how to read and use the Mahjong card?
• Can you identify the suits, dragons, and winds?
• Do you understand the basic flow of a game, including drawing and discarding tiles?
• Have you played at least one full game of Mahjong before?

If you answered “Yes” to at least 3 of these questions, you’re ready to join Guided Play.

If you answered “No” to most of these questions, we recommend attending a Mahjong Learning Session first.

Guided Play is intended for players who already know the fundamentals and would benefit from support, practice, and confidence-building while playing.

As a friendly reminder, Open Play is designed for players who already have a basic understanding of American Mahjong and can comfortably play independently with fellow participants. While Jill & Mai be there to help keep things running smoothly and answer questions, this is not an instructional class or guided lesson.

If you’re unsure whether Open Play is the right fit for your current skill level, or if you have any questions before the event, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re always happy to help.

EVENT FLOW

Guests will select a time slot that includes 1.5 hours of guided play and 30 minutes of social time, with both groups coming together at 7:00 PM.

• First Group: Play begins promptly at 5:00 PM. Please arrive a little early to choose your seat so we can start on time.
• Second Group: Join us at 6:30 PM for aperitivo and mingling, with play beginning promptly at 7:00 PM.

At 6:30 PM, all guests will gather for a shared social hour—perfect for connecting, mingling, and enjoying the evening together.

Food & Drink

Enjoy Italian-style aperitivo bites — indulge in Bottega favorites charcuterie board with cheeses and cured meats from our Mercatino, house focaccia and mini Pasta — all while you play.

A Dolce Ending: We’ll finish the evening the Italian way — with something sweet. Enjoy our signature mini cannoli for the perfect dolce finale.

Players are welcome to bring something to sip on throughout the evening. A selection of soft drinks will also be available for purchase.

What’s Included

We’ll provide everything you need to play, including Mahjong tiles, racks, cards, and all game materials—just bring yourself and get ready for a fun, social evening.

Throughout the event, Jill and Mai will be on hand to answer questions, offer guidance, and help you build confidence as you play. While this is not a formal lesson, you’ll receive plenty of support as you practice, improve your skills, and enjoy the game with fellow players.
