Boycott The Daily Telegraph

Sun 18 Oct 2026 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Berala Community Centre, 98-104 Woodburn Road Berala, 2141

For decades, Sydney’s Daily Telegraph has profited from targeting and vilifying minority communities. Its front pages have consistently targeted Muslims, First Nations people, refugees, Asian communities, Palestinians, and other vulnerable groups.

Now, the same communities that the Telegraph regularly stereotypes and politicises are fighting back. Launched in July, Boycott The Daily Telegraph is a movement of ordinary people urging advertisers, businesses and members of the public to withhold financial support for a media outlet that makes money from spreading hate, fear and misinformation.

Join Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi, journalist and author Antony Loewenstein, NSW Civil Liberties Council President Timothy Roberts and the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network’s Nour Salman for a town-hall discussion of why Sydney needs to boycott the Telegraph – and how ordinary people can get involved.

Pick up some campaign merch, grab some food and a coffee, and learn how you can be part of holding the Daily Telegraph to account.

Speakers

Mehreen became the first Muslim woman to sit in any Australian parliament when she joined the NSW Parliament in 2013. In 2018, she took her proudly feminist and anti-racist approach to Canberra when she joined the federal Senate.

In her time in Parliament, Mehreen has been an unflinching voice on social, environmental and racial justice, pushing to dismantle the systems of power, privilege and patriarchy.
