The Intersection of Trauma-Informed Care and Social Determinants of Health: A Social Justice Perspective
Thu May 22, 2025 9:00 AM - 12:15 PM EDT
Online, Zoom
Description
*Participants will earn 3 Cultural Competency/Anti-Oppression CE hours*
Trauma-informed care (TIC) and social determinants of health (SDOH) are deeply intertwined, shaping individuals' well-being, access to care, and overall life outcomes. This interactive three-hour presentation explores the intersection of TIC and SDOH, emphasizing the importance of integrating these frameworks to provide more equitable, effective, and compassionate support within the therapeutic process.
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how systemic inequities—such as racism, poverty, housing instability, and healthcare access—impact trauma and healing. Through didactic learning, discussion, and reflection, practitioners and healers will learn how to apply trauma-informed principles within diverse settings while considering the broader social structures that influence health and resilience.
Participants will receive 3 anti-oppressive/cultural competency CEs following their conclusion of the course.
Disclaimer: This training will explore the intersection of social determinants of health, trauma-informed care, and social justice, which may bring up difficult emotions or personal reflections. Some of the content may activate or cause discomfort, and participants are encouraged to engage in ways that feel safe and supportive for their well-being. We invite you to practice self-care throughout the training, whether that means taking breaks, stepping away as needed, or seeking support. Additionally, we ask that you be mindful of your own capacity to fully engage in this space. If you are not in a place to navigate discomfort at this time, we encourage you to honor that and make the best decision for your well-being.
