What is a Rope Jam?

Rope Jams (sometimes called Peer Rope) are events where you can come and tie, play or practice new techniques, learn from and hang out with other ropey people. Our team members will be on hand to welcome you, to monitor any safety issues and provide support if needed.

For the first hour of the rope jam, there will be a mini class. The topic will change every time (for example, learning a new harness or the basics of a new technique), and will be beginner and solo-friendly.

When buying your tickets, please either buy a ticket for both the rope jam and mini class, or if you prefer, for the rope jam only. If attending the rope jam only, the start time will be round 2.30pm. There will be one cost for attending the mini class and rope jam, and a lower cost for attending just the jam.

There will be spaces for suspending during the jam, as well as for floor play.
For those who are confident in suspension, you're welcome to make use of the studio's hardpoints. You will need to bring your own suspension equipment, and we reserve the right to stop any scenes that we judge to be unsafe.

Our rope jams will be held at Open Space Studios, in Hove, which is a beautiful dance studio with 16 hard points, a wooden sprung floor and floor-to-ceiling mirrors. The space is 10-15 mins walk from Brighton Station, with a bus stop very close by. There is on-road parking available.

Access
Open Space Studios is accessed via a sloped driveway from the street which is a little steep at points but step-free. There is one small step up into the building, however we have a portable ramp which is compatible with electric and manual wheelchairs, that can be used via very wide barn doors. There is one toilet which is not a disabled toilet, and a small cloakroom. There will be some basic refreshments and a kettle available, but we recommend bringing your own snacks. The cloakroom can be used as a breakout room if you are overwhelmed in the main space. Ambient music will be played at a low volume during the event. No dogs are allowed, including support animals (venue's rule, not ours).

Equipment
Floor mats and some bolsters will be provided by us, however if you want more comfort please do bring blankets, propping items or anything else you find helpful. There will also be some folding chairs to use if you struggle to sit on the floor. We have a communal rope box which you are welcome to use to borrow rope during the event, otherwise please do bring your own ropes. If you are suspending, please ensure you bring suspension equipment - we provide aerial straps from the ceiling down to a carabiner at around head height, and there may at times be bamboo available for suspension, but all other suspension equipment must be provided by yourself.

Refund Policy
Tickets can be refunded up to 7 days before an event. Cancellations within 7 days of an event will not be refunded.
