Tying for hypermobility/hEDS
Tying for hypermobility/hEDS
Within the rope scene, there are a lot of people who are hypermobile, or living with Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder/Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
This class explains what these conditions are, the different levels of need people might have and discusses the reasons why so many hypermobile people are into rope.
We’ll also explore the unique considerations which must be taken into account when tying with people who have HSD or hEDS, and some of their commonly co-occurring conditions. We will also discuss the ways that rope can be used to support the hypermobile body, making hypermobile people feel protected and held in a way that is hard to find outside of rope.
People with these conditions experience a wide variety of symptoms and levels of need, but there are some commonalities across people with all kinds of connective tissue disorders which should be understood by both rigger and rope bottom.
We will lastly find ways to support your body and prevent injury for hypermobile riggers.
This class is suitable for solo/paired/other constellations and will cover both theoretical knowledge, demo and practical elements.
Quartz has a healthcare background, has hEDS and has tied with a wide variety of hypermobile people with different needs. Peach also has hEDS as well as some of the health conditions that most commonly co-occur with hEDS. Together, they work to adapt floor and suspension-based ties to fit both of their needs.
What you’ll need
- A willingness to think about how your body functions & potentially challenge some bad habits
- 2-3 ropes. If you need to buy rope, check out our online store here
- Any pain management or bracing/propping aids you normally use
Is there a skill requirement for this class?
The skill requirement for this class is zero, however it is intended for people who have some experience of tying so ideally you will have been to any rope class before.
Do I need to attend with a partner?
No! There is no need to attend this class with a partner, however you are welcome to do so if you wish. All content can be self-tied or tied with a partner. Tickets cover one person self tying or one tying couple - please do not attend the class in a group if only one of you has a ticket, as this will disrupt the way we teach the class.
How do your online classes work?
You will receive an email a couple of days before the class with a Zoom link in it. You won't need a Zoom account to join. Once you've joined the call, we will let you in from the virtual waiting area and the class will begin promptly at 7pm. You will have access to the class recording for up to 7 days after the event.
All of our classes are LGBTQ+, disability and neurodivergence led and centred.
If you do not identify as LGBTQ+, you are welcome in our classes, but please be mindful that you are a guest in a safe (online) space, and respect everyone around you. We do not expect there will be lots of interaction between class members, however, if you make comments either out loud or in the chat that make us concerned that you can't respect everyone else, we will boot you from the call without a refund.
Low cost tickets
We have a number of low-cost tickets for each class we teach, and you can book a low-cost ticket on our booking form. If you need a low-cost ticket and we have sold out of these, please email us. Depending on our sales for the class in question, we may be able to offer further low-cost tickets.
