BEND. BUILD. NEST: a Brilliant Bamboo intensive workshop with Jean Baptiste Dubois

Ever wondered how to transform humble bamboo into a beautiful, intricate nest?

Join Jean-Baptiste Dubois, one of Europe’s distinctive voices in bamboo craftsmanship, for an immersive masterclass exploring the extraordinary possibilities of bamboo strips.

For more than 12 years, Jean-Baptiste has developed a unique artisanal expertise working with bamboo, combining traditional craftsmanship, contemporary design and an in-depth understanding of this remarkable natural material.

His journey began with a passion for Southeast Asia, which took him to Thailand in 2003, where he spent two years living among the Karen people and helping to build an agricultural training centre. It was there that he discovered and explored traditional bamboo craftsmanship — an experience that would profoundly influence his work.

In 2015, Jean-Baptiste founded Atelier Déambulons, specialising in artistic craftsmanship with bamboo strips and creating bespoke work for architects, landscape architects and scenographers. Over the years, the studio explored more than 800 projects, with over 200 completed in France and internationally.

Now, Jean-Baptiste is bringing that wealth of knowledge directly to Stoke. Together you will build a bamboo nest for the Brownfield Parklet, and to be shared as part of the UK Bamboo Summit 2026 at Birmingham Botanical Gardens whilst you discover how to:

• Understand bamboo as a living, natural material
• Bend, weave and shape bamboo strips by hand
• Build a strong, intricate nest from simple materials
• Explore structure, balance, tension and form
• Develop your own creative approach to bamboo
• Learn the techniques and insights gathered through years of practice

Jean-Baptiste combines craftsmanship, technical expertise and creative experimentation, with a particular passion for projects where bamboo is used in a meaningful and relevant way.

This isn't simply a class in making a nest. It's an opportunity to discover bamboo's extraordinary potential with the guidance of someone who has dedicated more than a decade to understanding, shaping, and sharing its possibilities.

Leave with a new appreciation for what this extraordinary material can do.

Spaces are limited — join Jean-Baptiste Dubois and discover the art, craft and creative potential of bamboo.
