Wellington Riding, Heckfield, Hook, Hampshire, RG27 0LJ
Description
Please note the date change - this event will now be on Thursday 7 March - if you have seen any other dates advertised, please ignore them!
The experts at Scott Dunn's Equine Clinic will give two presentations full of information every horse enthusiast should know. Whether you are a horse owner, loaner, groom, parent of a pony-mad child, thinking of taking your BHS Stages or Pony Club assessments, this evening will be really useful!
When to call the vet is our first subject. It's vital to know which ailments and injuries require immediate veterinary attention! Prompt veterinary intervention can, in the most extreme cases, mean the difference between life and death, so being clear when you need to ring the vet for urgent treatment is really important. We'll also help you understand what can ailments can wait until the morning (horse welfare comes first, of course, but sometimes you can safely avoid the emergency out-of-hours fees) and what you can simply treat yourself. We'll discuss what you should have in an equine first aid kit too.
After a break for some refreshments, we'll move on to Colic - what's going on internally? There are many types of colic, so we'll learn about them, what can cause them, and just what is going on in the 20+ metres of intestines! We'll talk about how to recognise a horse with colic, what you should do if you have one, and the range of treatment options available.
