Making the transition from training or the public sector into private practice can seem daunting. This one-day workshop aims to de-mystify the process and to provide participants with some tools to make this transition.
The workshop will be delivered in four parts covering a range of topics related to the establishment and development of a successful private practice.
Topics will include:
- Personal readiness to set up in private practice
- Finding a suitable location
- Obtaining referrals
- Clinical contracting
- Fees
- Marketing
- Managing risk & ethical considerations
- Supervision
- Insurance, legal, tax and GDPR matters
Break-out groups will be used to facilitate interactive discussion and there will be time for questions and exploration of all the above topics. Written handouts and reading suggestions will be provided.
N.B. As legal, insurance and tax matters will be covered, this workshop is primarily suitable for those intending to work in the UK.
Brett Morris brings much experience to this topic having lead many such workshops for different organisations across the UK. Brett initially trained as a psychodynamic counsellor, before qualifying as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and then as a psychoanalyst. He is a training therapist for several psychodynamic and psychoanalytic trainings and is also in demand as a clinical supervisor and seminar leader. Brett has maintained a full time private practice in Central London for many years.
