The Spirit of Renunciation: Men's Study and Practice Morning
Teachers who do not gladden others, and who are morose themselves – give them up!
The books and letters that you do not practice – give them up!
Those who compete with others and hoard possessions – give them up!
people who create disturbances and hold grudges – give them up!
Hope and expectations for your own benefit – give them up!
–Padmasambhava: from Advice to Three Fortunate Women prior to Departure
To move toward anything we have first to start by letting go of whatever is getting in the way or stopping us. There is a Transcendental ideal of open heartedness, clarity and energy, for the benefit of all beings which requires us to become bigger than we are now, and to inhabit a life that is bigger than our life right now.
This morning event is for any man who wants to explore the challenging and exhilarating topic of renunciation (the letting go), for the purpose of moving toward what is most important. Sthiramanas who lives and works at the London Buddhist centre (LBC) will be leading the morning with talks, engaging discussion, and meditation, based on a text from the enigmatic 8th-century guru Padmasambhava.
This event stands alone, but could also be used as a platform for men who are thinking of going on the intensive long weekend retreat at Vajrasana 10-13th April, which will be led by Maitreyabandhu and Sthirmamanas, in collaboration with the Brixton Buddhist Community.
Sunday 30 March, 10:15am-12.30pm
