The Broughton Immersion
A four-day self guided retreat in the UK’s leading retreat centre within one of Britain's most ambitious rewilding landscapes.
Thursday 20th to Sunday 23 August 2026
Broughton Sanctuary, featured in Nat Geo’s “Cool List”, spans 2,500 acres on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. Held by the same family for over 900 years, it is now undergoing a remarkable transformation as nature returns to the land. At its heart sits Avalon, a state-of-the-art wellbeing centre surrounded by ancient and newly planted woodland, rolling meadows, open water and thriving habitats. For four days, this landscape is yours to explore while staying in the beautiful accommodation across the Broughton estate—from the historic beauty of Broughton Hall to its charming Retreat Houses.
Within these four days, there is a flexible timetable - you can choose your own rhythm. Woodland dining - sing and eat beneath the trees with a circle of others, rest in the Avalon Pool suite, forage with a guide, draw in the open air, dance in the Fire Temple, swim in wild water, walk the labyrinth, volunteer on our nature recovery project or spend a day in quiet reflection with a book or sketch pad, overlooking the rewilding landscape.
Each morning begins together. Afternoons unfold into a choice of experiences or free time. As evening falls, everyone returns to gather around long tables, fires, music and unexpected moments of connection.
Hosted by Roger and Paris Tempest, stewards of Broughton Sanctuary, together with Brandt Miller, Alexander Beiner, Sevanti Martinez, Rebecca Gilling, Gemma Tetley, and the River Six — bringing together movement, pilgrimage, creativity, nature connection, performance, and embodied practice.
Thursday | Arrival
Step through the Door of Transformation and leave the everyday behind. The Immersion begins with an opening circle, before gathering for an evening of hot cacao, music, storytelling and fireside connection. Inspired by English folklore and the spirit of the Yorkshire Dales, the Fire Temple Gathering sets the tone for the days ahead.
Friday | Awakening the Senses
Rise early for a silent disco dance in the woods at dawn, then gather beneath the trees to sing folk music. The afternoon is yours to shape: explore wild swimming and a woodland sauna, create nature mandalas, walk the labyrinth, or unwind in the waters of Avalon pool suite. As night falls, come together for Cosmic Dining and a crystal bowl sound bath with Paris Tempest.
Saturday | Play and Imagination
Move your body, follow the art of pilgrimage but our guest speaker Brandt Miller. Join artist Eddie Foster for drawing in nature, explore traditional nature crafts, or work alongside the land team with your hands in the soil. The afternoon offers time for forest bathing and Avalon’s pool suite.
After dark, Broughton Hall transforms. Hidden rooms, mystery games, theatre, magic, fortune telling and unexpected encounters await. Fancy dress encouraged.
Sunday | Integration
A gentler pace. Gather in the Chapel for a morning of reflection and wisdom before a closing circle brings the Immersion to a close and prepares you for the journey home.
