Step into the hidden world of wild food, medicinal plants and woodland wisdom with folk herbalist, wild horticulturalist and chef forager Gem Tetley.
Together, we’ll wander through the meadows, woodlands and wild spaces of Broughton Sanctuary, discovering the remarkable abundance growing quietly all around us.
Along the way, Gem will share how to identify edible plants, medicinal herbs, dye plants, wild foods and seasonal fungi, revealing the traditional uses, folklore and practical knowledge woven into the landscape. You’ll learn how to forage with greater awareness, deepen your connection with the natural world and gain insight into the principles of sustainable harvesting.
As we explore, we’ll keep an eye out for the wildlife that calls these lands home, uncovering the rich relationships between plants, people and place.
Back in the woodland, you'll have the opportunity to sample a selection of wild preserves and seasonal condimentslovingly crafted by Gem using ingredients gathered from the sanctuary itself. Past tastings have included elderberry balsamic, pickled rowan berries and pine syrup, offering a delicious glimpse into the flavours of the wild.
We’ll conclude the afternoon with a wild plant tea beneath the trees, taking a moment to pause, reflect and savour the beauty of the season.
A journey into the forgotten knowledge of the land, and the extraordinary abundance growing at our feet.
