Phospholipid therapy as an effective biochemical intervention in systemic and neuro-inflammation.
Speakers: Drs Damien Downing and Shideh Pouria.
The BSEM invite you to a half-day workshop on the uses of phospholipids in clinical practice. Phospholipids and fatty acids represent potent therapeutic agents in an array of conditions which have their basis in inflammation. The treatments are aimed at modulating diseases from a cell membrane perspective, upstream from the pathological manifestations of diseases within different organ systems. As such they represent an effective intervention on a systems level. We expect that by the end of the day, delegates will have a clear understanding of:
1. The role of lipids in health.
2. The pathological basis for cell membrane damage in inflammatory conditions and 3. pathways for modulating biochemistry and immunology in a variety of conditions including neuro-inflammation as well as infectious and systemic inflammatory diseases.
Programme:
09.00 Registration.
09.30-10.30 Background biochemistry to phospholipids and their role in health and disease.
10.30-11.30 Therapeutic potential for use of phospholipids.
11.30-12.00 Break.
12.00-1.00 Neurological Disease.
1.00- 2.00 Immunity and Infections 15 minutes of each session is dedicated to Q&As.
