Blue Nose Winter Tour: Combat Systems at Sea
Multiple dates and times
The Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park, 14202
Description
Come aboard and get an in-depth tour to learn about the electronic combat systems and the use and function of Radar, the Combat Information Center (CIC), target tracking, plotting, and ship/fleet formation and maneuvering. Visitors on the Combat Systems at Sea tour will join our Lead Technical Volunteer Mario Roy for a guided experience to visit areas aboard USS The Sullivans and USS Little Rock that are not available on the regular tour route, including:
- CIC / Main passageway in the forward superstructure of The Sullivans
- Bow of Sullivans to point out radar systems and range finders
- Stern of Little Rock to highlight Radar systems for the Talos and Air search radar
- CIC / Gun plot on Little Rock to compare and contrast with The Sullivans
- Radio Central on Little Rock for the communications/coordination aspect of the fleet movement and formation
- Close out the tour on the bow of the Little Rock to discuss and view all three vessels at the Naval Park
Each tour will last approximately 90 minutes and will be limited to 11 people.
When touring most areas of the ship, visitors should expect to traverse narrow passageways, be able to step over significantly raised thresholds, and climb up and down very steep ladders. We recommend that you wear warm and comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes, and bring a flashlight. Due to the length of the tour and the spaces that will be visited, this tour is not recommended for those under 11 years of age.
The Buffalo Naval Park reserves the right to close the ships to visitors for safety concerns. If there is a cancellation due to weather conditions or safety issues, you will be notified and a refund will be issued.
