Blue Nose Winter Tour: Healthcare at Sea
Multiple dates and times
The Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park, 14202
Description
Have you ever wondered what happens if someone is sick or injured at sea? Join John “Doc” Moffat, the Buffalo Naval Park’s resident Hospital Corpsman and Docent, as he answers this question and many more. You’ll learn about the Medical and Dental departments including Surgical Operations, X-Ray, Treatment and Recovery. You’ll also learn about the emergency spaces aboard USS Little Rock like Battle Dressing and Damage Control. Examine the daily routine in the medical department and the crew duties from someone who lived and experienced it.
Each tour will last approximately 90 minutes and will be limited to 11 people.
When touring most areas of the ship, visitors should expect to traverse narrow passageways, be able to step over significantly raised thresholds, and climb up and down very steep ladders. We recommend that you wear warm and comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes, and bring a flashlight. Due to the length of the tour and the spaces that will be visited, this tour is not recommended for those under 11 years of age.
The Buffalo Naval Park reserves the right to close the ships to visitors for safety concerns. If there is a cancellation due to weather conditions or safety issues, you will be notified and a refund will be issued.
