Guided Missile System Weapons Control Add-On Tour
Multiple dates and times
The Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park, 14202
Description
Step aboard USS Little Rock CLG-4 and get an in-depth tour of the U.S. Navy’s first guided missile system of the Cold War. Visitors on the Guided Missile System Weapons Control Add-On Tour will join our Curator for a guided experience to visit areas that are not available on the regular tour route.
Learn how targets were selected, tracked, and engaged with the Talos missile system. Climb above the Missile House to see the Weapons Control space where the Talos Missile Battery Control Center was located. Visit the Missile House and Wing and Fin Assembly Area to learn about the Talos system and see where the keys and switches for the low yield nuclear weapons were stored aboard. USS Little Rock is the last remaining example of a RIM-8 Talos Mark 7 Twin Rail Launcher System in the world.
Each tour will last approximately 1 hour and will be limited to 10 people. All visitors must purchase general admission tickets in order to participate in the add-on tour.
When touring most areas of the ship, visitors should expect to traverse narrow passageways, be able to step over significantly raised thresholds, and climb up and down very steep ladders. We recommend that you wear comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes, and bring a flashlight. Due to the length of the tour and the spaces that will be visited, this tour is not recommended for those under 11 years of age.
