Young Persons Facial Reconstruction Workshop 27th May
Kids & Teens Facial Reconstruction Workshop
Join Bugs, Bones & Botany for a one-off half-term facial reconstruction workshop for curious kids and teens.
We’ll start with a short, simple PowerPoint exploring the history of facial reconstruction, including some fascinating case studies from different points in history.
Then it’s time to get hands-on.
Using human model skulls and clay, young people will have a go at building up a face step by step, using clues from anatomy, bones, forensic science, archaeology and art.
This session is perfect for anyone interested in:
- bones and anatomy
- archaeology and history
- forensic science
- mysteries and investigations
- art and sculpture
- museums and ancient people
- learning something unusual and different
No previous experience is needed. Just curiosity, patience and a willingness to have a go.
During the session we’ll explore:
- how skulls can give clues about a face
- a simple history of facial reconstruction
- real case studies from history
- how muscles and tissue help build facial shape
- how science and art work together
- how to create a face using clay on a model skull
Adults are very welcome, and encouraged, to stay and help their child/young person during the session.
Water, squash and biscuits will be available (and tea or coffee for adults, if they would like).
(*An adults-only facial reconstruction workshop will follow later the same day from 6pm.*)
