Following the fantastic response to our Facial Reconstruction Workshops, Bugs, Bones & Botany CIC is delighted to bring you a special Halloween edition designed for young investigators aged 7-17 years.

Join us for an afternoon where myths meet science. Together we'll uncover the fascinating stories behind legendary monsters, strange archaeological discoveries and mysterious diseases before becoming forensic artists ourselves.

Set amongst the autumn woodland at Dorset Falconry Park, this unique workshop combines anatomy, archaeology, forensic science, history and a little Halloween magic in a relaxed, hands-on environment.

🧠 Learning unusual and fascinating facts

No previous experience is needed, just curiosity, imagination and a willingness to discover the truth behind some of history's most famous legends.

During the afternoon we'll investigate...

• Why people believed in monsters and mythical creatures and why we 'celebrate' Halloween today
• How mammoth and elephant skulls may have inspired stories of Cyclopes and giants.
• Vampire burials, "witch" burials and other unusual archaeological discoveries.
• How disease, decomposition and misunderstood anatomy helped shape legends of vampires, zombies and werewolves.
• Ancient beliefs about protecting the living from the dead.
• How forensic scientists reconstruct faces from human skulls.
• Anatomy and the science of facial reconstruction.

Then it's your turn.

Using the same techniques employed by forensic artists and archaeologists, you'll build your own facial reconstruction using modelling clay, anatomical markers and a replica human skull.

Will your reconstruction reveal an ordinary person... or the face behind a legendary monster?

Throughout the afternoon there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions, discuss the science and get hands-on, all in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere with small group sizes, squash, water and Halloween treats.

🎃 Halloween Fancy Dress Encouraged!

Come dressed as your favourite mythical character, legendary creature or mysterious beast!

Whether you're a dragon, witch, vampire, Viking, Cyclops, fairy, pirate, ghost, werewolf, unicorn or something entirely of your own imagination, we'd love to see your costumes.

Fancy dress is completely optional, but Halloween is the perfect time to celebrate the strange, the mysterious and the wonderfully weird!
