About this event
"Best in class - Building Science Spring Training always provides me with the opportunity to meet people I have worked remotely with over the years, but also build new connections with people in similar situations, manufacturers, suppliers, and professionals that have been in the industry for a long time. This immensely helps with my own professional development" (attendee, 2024)

Spring Training Camp for Advanced Building Science 2025
Amid a historic housing crisis, we collectively possess the expertise to utilize practical building science to enhance efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and improve resiliency while promoting affordability and access to housing for Canadians. Through applied ingenuity and building science, we can elevate construction quality and occupant satisfaction, lower build costs, and streamline the regulatory and permit application process. We invite you to join us at the Advanced Building Science Spring Camp 2025 (our 11th year!) to reimagine the future, assess new codes and standards challenges, and reinforce partnerships.

What I liked about 2024?
"No matter how long or much time you have dedicated to learning the science behind great construction there is still so much more to learn. The training event put on by BKC is leaps and bounds above all the rest, especially the format and quality of the speakers." (attendee, 2024)
"I appreciate the organization of the Building Science Spring Training’s forum, the open dialogue, and the entertaining presenters who, instead of lecturing, deliver engaging, relatable presentations targeted to the audience to keep them focused." (attendee, 2024)

Dr John Straube Univ Waterloo & RDH, return's to building science camp with a special take on stuff he has learned and stuff he has seen. John has been a keen champion of high performance builders and designers, helping the industry adopt "applied building science". Johns energetic encouragement and guidance ultimately helps us make smarter decisions, one-step-at a time.
Resiliency _Efficiency & Sufficiency In Homebuilding:
ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer and Internationally renowned Thermal Comfort expert, Robert Bean, returns to Building Science Camp!. Taking us further down the rabbit hole on Building science physics and the deeper impact on humans, society and our buildings. The fundamentals of physics and deeper terms(Exergy Efficiency) and design /building to human centric performance give us a glimpse into the future of technology, design development and more.
New N. American Embodied Carbon Standard Introduced for Homes and Low Rise Buildings: ANSI/RESNET 1500
Join material carbon expert, Chris Magwood , Rocky Mountain Institute. As he provides and overview of this new carbon benchmark methodology and the impact/results on Canadian Archetypes Homes. Working with Alexis Minnitti of Building Knowledge Canada, builders will learn how to benchmark upfront embodied carbon UEC, how to reduce UEC, and how to plan for homes that draw-down carbon (storing more carbon than the residence will potentially produces).
On The Horizon For IAQ In New Homes: Moving beyond High Performance Homes?
What's new, what's changing. How can builders and designers go deeper into delivering enhanced indoor, health-supportive environments. Join Empire Homes VP Andrew Guido, ASHRAE Distinguished lecturer Robert Bean (past Chair ASHRAE 55) and Gord Cooke President BKC as they look at current and future IAQ (maybe IEQ!?) targets and benchmarks.
Accessory Dwelling Units: Easy, cost effective HVAC solutions are here!
Gord Cooke, President BKC, Construction Instruction Walk through all the new HVAC design scenarios available to easily, efficiency condition accessory dwelling units ADUs. Learn what works, what doesn't work, what decision criteria helps in design.
