Ten things that can fix the environment
What works, what needs to change, and how we make it happen.

Wednesday 18 November 2026 | 7–8.15 pm UK time | Online via Zoom

A Bylines Network webinar featuring:

    • Feargal Sharkey – clean-water campaigner: bringing his experience of challenging water pollution and building public pressure for action.
    • Dale Vince – Ecotricity founder and environmental campaigner: bringing a perspective on green enterprise, changing our energy system and putting ideas into practice.
    • Rosie Hampton – Principal Policy Advisor at Uplift: bringing expertise on a fair transition to renewable energy, with workers and communities at its heart.
    • Dr Mike Galsworthy (chair) and co-founder of the Bylines Network.

A river safe to swim in. A home you can afford to heat. Clean air, thriving wildlife and communities with the power to shape a greener future.  As the world discusses climate change at yet another COP summit, we're bringing the discussion closer to home and asking what environmental progress can look like in our everyday lives.

With winter approaching, questions about energy bills and warmer homes are immediate. The decisions we make about energy, water and the natural world will also shape our communities for generations.

Join Bylines Network as we search for ten things that can fix the environment, with a panel of vital voices from campaigning, green enterprise and energy policy. We'll explore the solutions worth backing and the choices, investment and public pressure needed to put them into practice. This conversation will connect those everyday concerns with the bigger changes we need.

What to expect

We’ll begin with a panel discussion, before opening up to audience questions and wider discussion. Together, we’ll ask:

  • What would it take to clean up our rivers — and hold those responsible for pollution to account?
  • How can cleaner energy help deliver affordable bills and warmer homes?
  • How do we make environmental change work for workers and communities?
  • Where can local action make the greatest difference, and where do we need national decisions?
  • What turns public frustration into pressure that achieves lasting change?

There will also be opportunities to contribute through the chat and interactive polls.

Bylines Network’s monthly webinars help people make sense of a complex world, bringing informed voices into conversation with people who want to understand what’s happening and help shape what comes next. Our 3,000 volunteers run ten regional and national publications, engaging half a million people every month. Environmental and climate journalism is a major part of our work, bringing a grassroots perspective to the issues that affect our communities.

No specialist knowledge is needed, and there’s no pressure to speak. Come with questions, share your experience, or simply listen.

Join from wherever you are on Zoom. We start at 7pm and finish by 8.15pm UK time. Book your place to receive joining details.
