Song Circle is a communal singing session led by Kate Markham - it is a unique blend of chants, global songs and voice practices. These sessions are open to all levels of experience and are taught at a gentle pace using an oral tradition of call and response to enhance learning and recollection. This session is a grounded, somatic practice involving breath, body and voice.
For our ancestors, chants and songs would accompany every kind of activity and life event. Individuals and communities expressed emotions through their songs and sounds – joy and celebration, grief and despair. Songs fulfilled a myriad of purposes both practical and profound.
In a time when more people are increasingly feeling disconnected from each other, group singing can be a very accessible, creative and joyful way of bringing people together.
What can you expect:
💫A welcoming space to explore the voice and power of song.
🎶 Leaning into the breath and body to encourage the release of tension to open up the voice.
✨I work with voice and song, and believe that singing is for everyone regardless of musical experience or ability.
🫶🏼Enjoying songs and chants together, taught by ear, following the tradition of call and response.
I look forward to singing with you soon ✨🎶💫
