An evening of practical ideas, inspiring examples and honest advice about making our homes more comfortable, energy efficient and resilient to a changing climate.

How can we make our homes warmer, greener and more comfortable? What does retrofit actually involve? How do you choose a good contractor? What support and grants are available? And how can we keep our homes cool as summers get hotter?

Join us for the launch of Open Eco Homes Devon 2026 and hear from people who have actually done it.

The evening will include:

• Real retrofit experience – Fuad Al-Tawil will share his own “able to pay” retrofit journey
• Renewable heating and heat pumps – practical advice from Sune Nightingale on choosing contractors, avoiding pitfalls and protecting yourself financially
• Support and grants – Ellen Rodger from Energy Saving Devon will explain what grants and help is available and where to find reliable advice
• A zero-carbon Passivhaus – Robin de Carteret will give a brief introduction to his own home and what it has taught him
• Summer cooling and shading – Sarah Lee will share practical ideas for keeping homes comfortable as temperatures rise
• Audience Q&A – bring your questions and put them to all the speakers

There will also be an opportunity to meet the people taking part in Open Eco Homes Devon, find out about the homes and projects opening their doors this autumn, and chat informally over tea and biscuits.
