E.P. Thompson lived with his wife Dorothy in Halifax for 17 years between 1948 - 1965. A commemorative Blue Plaque was put up on their home at Holly Bank, Siddal, in 2013. To celebrate what would have been Thompson's 100th birthday, Calderdale TUC (with support from the Society for the Study of Labour History, Yorkshire CND and the Independent Working Class Education Network) are holding a day-long conference on Saturday 3rd February 2024 to discuss and reflect on E.P. Thompson's intellectual and political legacies, as well as the ongoing relevance of Thompson's approaches to history and politics for the world of today. Join us to hear from Penelope Corfield, Julian Harber, Jane Mayes, Hugo Radice, Judy Cox, Gawain Little, Colin Waugh, Katrina Navickas and Trevor Fisher, as well as Tariq Ali who will be joining us remotely.

Arrival from 9.30am for a prompt 9.55am start. The event will end at 3.30pm, with a social following in the Grayston Unity pub from 4pm until 6pm. There will be a basic sandwich lunch provided on the day.

This is a free event, so please only book tickets if you are certain that you can attend. A collection will be taken on the day, and there will be stalls too, so please bring cash if you wish to contribute and support the event.
