About This Historic Event
In late 1956, inside this very hall, a 16-year-old John Lennon stepped onto a stage for the very first time with his skiffle group, The Quarrymen. That single moment inside a South Liverpool school hall sparked a story that changed global popular culture forever.
Seventy years later, history returns to the place where it all began.
On Saturday, 28th November, original band members Colin Hanton (drummer) and Rod Davis (banjo) - the very band and schoolmates who stood alongside a teenage John Lennon on our stage in 1956 - are coming back to Quarry Hall. They will perform live once again and answer audience questions in an intimate live Q&A, exactly 70 years on.
Join us inside the authentic, historic Quarry Hall for The Quarrymen: 70th Anniversary Homecoming - an evening of live music, rare heritage, and shared emotion inside the very room, and on the very stage where it all started.
What to Expect
- 🎤 An Intimate Q&A & Live Performance: The original Quarrymen members and Friends return to Quarry Hall – John and Rod’s school, their namesake, and the first stage they played, to share personal memories, answer audience questions, and perform a live set of the seminal 1950s skiffle and rock 'n' roll tracks that birthed the Liverpool sound.
- 🏛️ The Return of the Quarry Bank Archives: Be among the first to witness iconic historical artefacts returning home after years on loan to the Beatles Museum - including John Lennon’s original school desk and vintage Quarry Bank registers.
- 🎥 Exclusive Never-Before-Seen Interviews: Experience the premiere of rare, archived interview footage featuring alumni, close friends, and music legends reflecting on the band's origins—including Rod Davis (The Quarrymen), Julia Baird (John Lennon’s sister), and world-renowned songwriter Guy Chambers.
