[COMMUNITY PARTNER EVENT] Climate in Motion: A Guided Bow River Systems Walk

Fri Jun 5, 2026 12:30 PM - 1:15 PM Peace Bridge, Calgary, AB T2N 3C9

UPDATED DATE & TIME: MOVED FROM THURSDAY, JUNE 4 DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS

This guided, small group walk explores how climate change is actively shaping Calgary’s water systems in real time. Set within Prince’s Island Park, participants will move through a series of stops along the Bow River, learning how to observe and interpret the interaction between natural systems, urban infrastructure, and human activity. The walk introduces a systems-based perspective on climate, grounded in what can be seen, experienced, and understood locally.

Participants will be guided through key themes including river flow variability, flood and drought dynamics, stormwater infrastructure, and riparian ecosystem resilience. Through light discussion and observation, the experience highlights how climate impacts are not abstract, but embedded within everyday environments. A core component of the walk introduces a citizen science perspective, demonstrating how simple, structured observation can contribute to broader environmental understanding and climate awareness.

This session is designed to be informative, participatory, and reflective, offering a practical lens into how climate transition is unfolding across Calgary’s water systems.
