Drawing into Self -
IFS through Spontaneous Scribbling
Foundation 1 : THE 1-TO-1 SESSION
The FOUNDATION 1 workshop offers an introduction to the Drawing into Self method,
looking technically at how the IFS method 'translates' when using
pastels and paper plus offering a full live demo session and a short
experiential taster for everyone to try.
Drawing into Self is a comprehensive externalisation method for doing IFS with individuals and groups, devised by Ruth Culver. It
combines the IFS protocol with guided somatic mark-making, using pastel
crayons on paper.
By following the somatic energy of parts, Drawing into Self develops embodied
connection, and often reveals subconsciously-held information. It offers
a way to work with multiple parts within the system, bringing clarity and reducing overwhelm. It supports easier unblending and builds relationships between parts and Self, and offers an accessible way for people to continue connecting with their parts outside the therapy room.
No skill is needed, just than the ability to scribble and curiosity
to explore. There is no goal to 'make art' - the drawing is abstract
and simply a result of the IFS process.

TESTIMONIALS
"From
this workshop, I can see it will benefit both my personal engagement
with my own system and my work in the therapy room, supporting clients
to explore their inner landscapes."
“I saw parts unblend so quickly doing this”
"It's a beautiful, expressive way to facilitate unblending and encourage a deeper, more right-brained/subcortical inquiry with a part or constellation of parts."
“Such an amazing resource for therapists & their clients.”
"It
offers a way to stay close in to parts through sensorimotor engagement
that can be missing when we 'go inside', potentially facilitating more
access to all the facets of parts and a more embodied knowing of their
experiences"

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Ruth Culver is Certified and Level 3 trained in IFS, and specialises in somatic and creative integrations. She offers experiential workshops and trainings both online and in-person, and also works individually with adolescents and adults in Brighton (UK).
Her interest in trauma, attachment and resilience led to the creation of the The Survive/Thrive Spiral infographic, which maps together IFS and Polyvagal Theory. It is used by mental health professionals and individuals across the globe, and can be downloaded free from her website in a wide range of languages.
Ruth has also devised two other IFS integrations: Drawing into Self: a method for doing IFS though guided intuitive drawing (for individuals and groups), and IFS Constellations: a method for doing IFS through the somatic group resonance process of constellations.
Ruth has been a guest on a number of podcasts including IFS Talks and has been published in The International Journal of Trauma. She is currently creating a certified training course for Drawing into Self.
