explore the edges of emotion in the music and art of Mexico
Delve into the rich musical and artistic heritage of Mexico with a lively evening featuring flute, string quartet, double bass, piano, and guitar. This eclectic and engaging program includes Gabriela Ortiz's emotive A Pepe from Exilios for flute and string quartet, José Rolón's lush Cuarteto Romantico for violin, viola, cello, and piano, and three pieces by resident composer Andrés Martín: the virtuosic Noche de Alebrijes for double bass and piano and the mystical Ritual for string quintet. Classical Mexican chamber music is not complete without the guitar, and guitarist Fred Benedetti will dazzle on Leonardo Coral’s serene White Cedar for solo guitar and Ortiz's playful De Ida Y Vuelta for flute and guitar. As an exciting cap to the evening, we will unveil a new commission by the celebrated Mexican artist Hugo Crosthwaite, infusing the musical journey with a dynamic visual element.
