the music of Mexico, Uruguay, and Buenos Aires
Experience a journey through the music of Mexico, Uruguay, and Argentina with Camarada! A stellar lineup of musicians leads the way through music from Mexico's danzón master, Arturo Márquez, late mariachi legend Rubén Fuentes, and the father of nuevo tango himself, Argentinian Astor Piazzolla. The program will also feature the music of Uruguayan composer and Camarada collaborator, Miguel del Águila, as well as a special arrangement of Piazzolla's classic "Oblivion" by composer and double bassist Andrés Martín, plus pieces by Alberto Ginastera, Silvestre Revueltas, Álvaro Carrillo, and Amador "Dimas" Pérez. Jeff Nevin, trumpet player and founder of Mariachi Champaña Nevin, joins the ensemble as both musician and musicologist, and will speak before the concert in a special interview hosted by Rafael Fernández, director of UCSD's Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies.
