At 3:00 PM, join us for "Awkun", Cambodian American director praCh Ly shares a day in the life of the surrounding community. Through glimpses of lives intertwined with the reservoir’s waters, this short film draws attention to the often-overlooked relationships that bridge sacred and urban spaces, from past to present.
The short film is followed by 2007's “Freedom Writers” directed by Richard LaGravenese, the true story of Erin Gruwell, a young teacher in a racially divided Long Beach school, who inspires her class of at-risk students to pursue education beyond high school. After the film, join us, Erin Gruwell and students for a panel conversation about the film and the true story inspiring it.
Free screenings for all kids, students and seniors, thanks to a grant from the RuMBa Foundation of Long Beach. Also made possible by Port of Long Beach and Cambodia Town. Free tickets at box office (on screening days) or can be requested at info@cambodiatownfilmfestival.com
