The Stories We Told: CTFF's Documentary Corner

The festival closes Sunday night with an awards ceremony at 6:30 PM, followed by our short documentary section titled "The Stories We Told." This section features “Next Up, Lin Sun,” directed by Jane Alcala, which tells the story of Lin Sun, born in a refugee camp and descended from an entertainment dynasty erased by genocide; she reclaims her family's legacy one joke at a time. “God Also Likes Donuts,” directed by Mood Infinite & Kelsey Tang, explores donut shops owned by Cambodian refugees and immigrants on the West Coast. “Cat’s Tale,” directed by Em Butler, documents a second-generation Khmer-American daughter’s return to Cambodia with her mother after over 40 years, and "Broken Courage," directed by David Peck and Nathanael Draper; poignant documentary tells the story of Suon Rottana, a teenage Khmer Rouge rebel who became a soldier in the Cambodian army, a prisoner of war, and a landmine amputee. Now, Suon is a wounded man on a journey seeking redemption and reconciliation. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmakers.
