DESTINATION - Maison Sixteen, Kimbolton

DISTANCE – 40 miles ‘outward’ leg, 41miles ‘return’ leg.

Description:

Starting at the BP garage at St. Ives we will head north on the B1040 through the home of the Fen’s only mountain rescue team in Pidley and continue on this road all the way out to Ramsey. Turning west and then south we will head to Abbots Ripton using some single track roads and B roads which then continue west on the B1090 and north to just outside Sawtry. Travelling beside the A1 towards Alconbury we will then turn west to intersect the B660 and head to Kimbolton. The relatively newly opened ‘Maison Sixteen’ is our breakfast stop.

After breakfast we will head west and continue to encounter a mix of single track (some very bumpy!) and interesting B roads as we loop back past Chelveston airfield (wartime base of the B-17 305^th Bombardment group, nicknamed ‘Can-do’) and then north to cross the A14 at Keyston – where the Pheasant pub is located – well worth a visit. Then I hope you enjoy the ride as we experience the roads of west Cambridgeshire, ending our trip at the services at Brampton Hut, the intersection of the A1 and A14, parking up in the McDonalds car park situated at the rear of the BP garage at the services.

Restrictions:

This ride is restricted to 12 people, including the ride leader, tail ender and pillions.

Ride Brief:

Unfortunately, some of the road surfaces have suffered during summer and at times you may think you are riding in the fens! Assuming we ride using the ‘drop-off’ system, overtaking will be allowed, but please be considerate to all riders and other road users. I’ve tried to choose a mix of roads (no major trunk roads) that should keep you entertained whether you want to make progress or just take in the views.
