HEP Particle Physics Masterclass 2026

9.30am - 4pm on Monday 13^th April and Tuesday 14^th April 2026

After a year’s break while we moved into our new home, the Ray Dolby Centre, the High Energy Physics research group of the Department of Physics at the University of Cambridge invites you and your sixth-form students to attend the annual Particle Physics Masterclass event, as part of the Institute of Physics National Particle Physics Masterclass programme. The Masterclass is a 1-day event, repeated on two consecutive days, which highlights some of the latest developments in Particle Physics research. Although this event is primarily intended for students taking A-Level modules or equivalent that include particle physics, it is also open to any physics students or teachers who are interested in studying or teaching the subject.

The days are a mixture of short-talks by research physicists and practical sessions which take place at Cavendish Laboratory. The program will be announced nearer the time once the closing date has passed.

This year’s Masterclass will be taking place on Monday 13^th April and Tuesday 14^th April 2026 in the new home of the Cavendish Laboratory, the state-of-the-art Ray Dolby Centre.

The closing date for bookings is Monday 30^th March 2026. Numbers from each school may have to be limited and we will not be able to guarantee places for more than 5 students from each school. You can book your places by clicking 'Book Student Spaces' above.

There are a number of places that you can buy lunch on the West Cambridge Site including the Cavendish’s own cafeteria, but queues can be long at peak times so it is advisable to bring packed lunches.
