- The Civil War and Restoration were periods of intense political turmoil in England; they were also a time of rapid development for glass-panelled hives, a variation on the recently-introduced box hive. This was no coincidence and this talk will discuss a selection of the Royalist and Parliamentarian writers who praised the value of glass hives for their own political ends.
- Marlis Hinckley holds a doctoral degree in the History of Science from Johns Hopkins University (USA), as well as a master's degree in Medieval History from the University of Cambridge (UK). Her primary research focus is garden history, particularly during the early modern period.
