Join us to mark the last day of 16 Days of Action on Violence Against Women & Girls and International Human Rights Day.
This session, delivered by Bal Kaur Howard, will cover:
13.00 -14.40 Honour Based Abuse / Forced Marriage
To raise awareness, identification and support processes of Honour Based Abuse/Forced Marriage and FGM and the impact on victims/children. Enabling practitioners to be able to understand the issues and support processes available to children and adults subjected to Honour Based Abuse /Forced Marriage/FGM across all cultures and religions and families.
To understand
- the context of Domestic Abuse & so called Honour Based Abuse
- the definitions of Honour Based Abuse/Forced Marriage & Government / Policing Strategy
- the differences between Arranged / Forced Marriage & why they happen
- the risk indicators / triggers why an individual may suffer Honour Based Abuse / Forced Marriage
- To challenge community/cultural beliefs

Female Genital Mutilation
The second part of the session will raise awareness, identification and support processes of Female Genital Mutilation to multi-agency practitioners, enabling them to safeguard and identify children at risk of FGM more confidently
To support practitioners working with women and children subjected to FGM understand, engage and gain confidence with support processes to safeguard the child more effectively and improve understanding of mandatory processes and responsibilities

- the definitions of Female Genital Mutilation & why families practice FGM
- the types of FGM and potential community issues
- the impact of health on FGM for victims, including children – Survivor Stories
- To identify risk indicators before / after FGM has taken place
- Understand the Legislation - Mandatory Reporting / FGM Protection Orders
- Awareness of Breast Ironing / Flattening
