Artist in conversation: Majd Abdel Hamid

We are delighted to welcome artist Majd Abdel Hamid back to CAMPLE LINE on Sat 8 August when he will be in conversation with Francis McKee about his current exhibition Murmuration and his wider practice.

Please join us for the opportunity to hear Majd talk about his work in embroidery and textile and the longstanding concerns that underpin his practice: memory, time, trauma and repair. Of his embroidery, Majd has said: 'It is something I do daily, I have to, I embroider every morning or noon, or when I'm travelling and it allows me the space to process, to think basically aside from the loop of reaction.'

Biographies:
Majd Abdel Hamid  grew up in Ramallah in the West Bank and is currently based between Beirut and Paris.  He graduated from Malmö Art Academy, Sweden (2010) and attended the International Academy of Art in Palestine (2007-2009). He is currently the subject of a solo exhibition, Matériaux de la Mémoire, at Réfectoire des Moines in Tournus, France. He has also had recent solo exhibitions in Basel, Switzerland (2026), and in Bremen, Germany, St. Gallen, Switzerland, London, Dubai, and Beirut (all 2025).  His work has also been featured in numerous group exhibitions, including at  M_HKA, Antwerp and Mathaf, Doha (2025-2026), the 6th Kyiv Biennial, Warsaw and Berlin (2025-26); and Biennale de Lyon, Lyon, France; Phenomenon, Anafi, Greece; Venice Biennial, Venice, Italy (all 2024).

Francis McKee is a writer and curator working in Glasgow. From 2006-2023, Francis was Director at the Centre for Contemporary Art, Glasgow. He is also a lecturer and research fellow at The Glasgow School of Art.
