Embroidery workshop with Helen Walsh

Enjoy a mindful Sunday stitching session with artist Helen Walsh and make your own personal textile postcards. 

Guided by Helen, we'll work on small embroideries, exploring pattern and colour. We will use a variety of embroidery stitches and consider how we can use them as a way of mark-making and time-marking. With a focus on process and materials, this session will provide an opportunity to take time to make you own small embroideries and reflect on time and memory as important concerns in Majd Abdel Hamid's practice.

What to expect: Helen will guide you through a variety of stitches and embroidery methods, and you will be able to work directly on small pieces of fabric from Majd's own collection, presenting your embroideries on postcards at the end of the session. 

Who is it for? Suitable for all abilities. No previous experience of embroidery is required.

What to bring: All materials will be provided.

Refreshments: There will be a short break in the session, and refreshments will be provided. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements when booking.

About Helen Walsh
Helen Walsh is an artist and creative practitioner living on the beautiful Solway Coast. Helen specialises in drawing and textiles, in particular embroidery. She is continually fascinated by the natural world and our connection to it. She is particularly interested in birds and their feathers and uses them as symbols in her work to explore the human desire to transcend. Choosing to work predominantly with natural fibres such as wool, silk and linen Helen finds herself consistently drawn to traditional textile skills such as embroidery, felting and dyeing and enjoys the connections with the often forgotten makers of the past that working this way gives her.
