Historical and Tapas Tour of Las Palmas
Thu 10 Apr 2025 11:00 - 18:00
Buddies Bar - Yumbo Centre, 35100
Description
Discover five centuries of colonial art, architecture and history while mingling with the bears… and enjoying some traditional Canarian tapas along the way!
We will tour the main landmarks of “Vegueta”, the historical district of Las Palmas, our capital city (just 40 minutes away from Maspalomas). Vegueta is one of the jewels of Spanish history and is filled with history, stories and great food!
Las Palmas was the first Spanish colony, founded back in 1478. Being the Western-most city of any European power, the island became a cornerstone in the conquest of America, starting with the stopover of Columbus in his very first voyage, and accrueing an impressive historic heritage during the Spanish Empire that soon followed. The Canarian influence in Latin America (and vice versa) is still palpable not only in the architecture, but also in the cuisine, the music, the dialect, the values and even the pace of life.
We’ll start the day with a visit to the famous covered market and then guide you to several landmarks in the area. After that we will have tapas and drinks in a typical Canarian restaurant and give you time to roam the area yourself before driving back to Maspalomas.
