A voice from Heaven

Join Cantamus Chamber Choir for their spring concert celebrating music by women composers. Imogen Holst’s stunning Mass in A minor for five part unaccompanied choir bears more than a passing resemblance to Vaughan Williams’ G minor mass with all the skill but little recognition in her lifetime. Kerensa Briggs is enjoying immediate recognition for her Requiem for choir, organ and mezzo solo. Using centuries old plainsong chants with contemporary twists, this work will nourish the soul and features an English setting of the lux aeterna, I heard a voice from Heaven. Marie Elliot is our mezzo soloist who will also perform music by Florence Price and Rebecca Clarke with accompanist Steven Hollas. After her proms debut last year Lucy Walker was thrust into the choral spotlight, and her mesmeric "I saw eternity’ rounds off this enticing afternoon concert.
