Zach Sheets, flute | Charles Overton, harp
Zach Sheets enjoys a multi-facetedcareer as a chamber musician, orchestral flutist, composer/performer, and advocate for funding in the arts and music education. Zach has appeared as guest Principal Flute with the Boston Ballet and Spoleto Festival USA; the Portland, Albany and Cape Symphonies; and the Phoenix, Unitas, and as a guest of the Boston Pops, Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Chorus Pro Musica, and New World Symphony. At 23, Zach was named Principal Flute, Lyndon Paul Lorusso Chair, of the Cape Symphony Orchestra, and held that role for 9 seasons. As a composer, Zach's works have been performed in the U.S. and abroad by some of the world's foremost interpreters of contemporary music, including the Ensemble InterContemporain, Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, and the International Contemporary Ensemble.
Zach is currently the Senior Director of Major and Institutional Gifts at Community Music Center of Boston, the largest outside provider of arts education to the Boston Public Schools. He has spoken about the importance of arts education, youth leadership, and racial equity before the Massachusetts Legislature, Mass Cultural Council, National Guild for Community Arts Education, Chamber Music America Conference, and the Council for the Advancement & Support of Education National Conference.
Boston-based harpist Charles Overton is known for bridging classical and jazz traditions, bringing a fresh, engaging perspective to every performance. As both second and substitute harpist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Pops, Overton has accompanied world-renowned artists such as Cynthia Erivo, Queen Latifah, and Terence Blanchard. His chamber music experience is extensive, including performances with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Winsor Music, and the Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia, as well as appearances at the Yellow Barn and Marlboro Music Festivals.
A passionate jazz musician, Overton collaborates regularly with artists like Shabaka and Ganavya and has appeared at major venues and festivals throughout North America and Europe, including Big Ears Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, NYC Winter JazzFest, North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. He remains an active presence in jazz clubs in New York and Boston.
Originally from Richmond, VA, Overton began his musical journey with the American Youth Harp Ensemble and later attended Interlochen Arts Academy. He went on to study at Berklee College of Music, where he also participated in the Berklee Global Jazz Institute. Overton serves on the faculty of both the Boston Conservatory at Berklee and Yellow Barn.
In addition to performing, Overton writes and arranges his own original music and is a core member of projects such as Trio Oko and Wild Tapestry. He is currently working on new music as a follow-up to his debut album, Convergence.
