Join us for the humor, the slapstick, oh and the incredible award winning tunes of these two duos.
STUCKY LEIGH
Stucky Leigh is the harmonious collision of Lauren Leigh and Will Stucky, two solo artists who found a musical synergy too good to ignore. Since their 2023 debut single, “Feel This Way,” they’ve been crafting songs that blend rich storytelling with necessary dissonance, seamlessly weaving their individual artistry into a compelling duo. With a chemistry that will move even the most dispassionate souls, they continue to balance their solo pursuits while sneaking in performances and songwriting sessions whenever the stars align.
Lauren Leigh remains in my personal top echelon of vocal performers. In a 2021 feature, the San Diego Troubadour highlighted her as a "powerhouse singer" with a "wonderfully soulful voice." She uses her voice like the treasured instrument it is.
In an interview with fellow musician/writer Sande Lollis, she writes of Will Stucky, " Will makes some magic of his own. His voice is like crystal… clear as a bell. It is strong and soft in the right places, slightly airy, and without vibrato. It pierces my heart, making it ache with emotion. He is not flashy, neither in playing guitar or singing; he’s a comfort."
More recordings of Stucky Leigh’s romances are rumored to be released in 2025.
MARK MONTIJO WITH LENNY BOLE
Mark Montijo began playing original material in clubs and festivals in the mid-1960s. His primary influences were his friends and the other musicians frequenting these clubs. Some of these artists moved on to develop much larger audiences; others did not. Mark performed as a solo performer and in various bands before disappearing entirely from the music scene in the late 1970s to focus on various business ventures and political action.
Between then and now, Mark makes claim to a few accomplishments including “marrying well, raising a happy hard-working son, writing a couple of my best songs, helping to build a small local museum into a nationally significant institution, designing and building a few houses, and helping to create an effective local non-profit arts and music organization.”
Mark recently began performing in public again; writing, recording, and sharing music with new audiences. American Songwriter Magazine called HISTORY, the title track from his return album, “remarkable,” and a recently a released track, SOMEONE CAN FLY, earned him an “Outstanding Achievement in Songwriting Award” at the 19th Annual Great American Song Contest. This tune is included in the full album IF I GET TO HEAVEN, which has been nominated as “Best Local Recording” by the San Diego Music Awards.
I feel honored to call Mark Montijo "friend" but that is not the reason he's booked to open the season. His 2024 release "If I Get to Heaven" is literally the most anticipated album of my life after the Eagles 1979 release of The Long Run. An expert songsmith, Mark's music plays with melody and prose in unique and delightful ways.
Lenny Bole was a founding member of the band Montezuma’s Revenge. He toured with the band and played with various other groups before settling into a long productive career teaching in an rural elementary school. Back now performing and recording, Lenny is a member of the Prairie Sky Band and can also frequently be heard as a featured musician with other local bands.
