Outspoken Profesional Development Institute presents: SELF-Led EMDR with Internal Family Systems
This workshop is designed to give mental health professionals who have taken EMDR basic training and IFS Level One a condensed overview of Bruce Hersey’s systematic interweave of IFS and EMDR as taught by Syzygy Institute in their three-step program consisting of 3 two-day experiential workshops.
Reframing the AIP network and targeted network as conscious relational entities engaged in a dynamic energetic healing relationship; Functional Dual Attention, and using IFS concepts as organizing principles in EMDR Phases One and Two, allows for the organic development of a treatment plan that identifies the most appropriate current target. Target information is gathered from specified internal sources and Discovery, a method of working with protectors (defenses) using bilateral stimulation, is detailed when the lack of Functional Dual Attention precludes a complete Assessment Phase and desensitization.
The importance of therapist Self-leadership is underscored, particularly when dealing with protectors. A possible mechanism of action of EMDR which accesses enhances, and supports Functional Dual Attention is suggested.
Presentor: Bruce Hersey
My trajectory as a growing therapist was born in the fundamental humanism of Carl Rogers and progressed with the addition of the hypnotic language and approaches of Milton Erickson, noted for his applications of communication with the unconscious mind as a creative and solution-generating entity within the person. EMDR brought clarity about the value of dual attention and the structure of somatic, emotional, and cognitive elements within the afflictions of trauma, while Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy contributed life, shape, relationship, universality, and sense to this. More recently, the emergence of Coherence Therapy from Memory Reconsolidation research has injected additional insight and precision into this expanding formula.
I am an Approved Consultant in EMDR and also a Certified IFS Therapist. Having completed IFS Levels One, Two & Three Training, and as a repeat Level One Program Assistant, I've passionately imparted my deep understanding of the model by teaching numerous introductory IFS workshops, leading IFS consultation groups, and providing individual IFS consultations. I've presented at the IFS International Conference several times, and have been teaching workshops on the integration of EMDR & IFS since 2013.
