Three Legg’d Mare are an Aberystwyth band with an interest in the traditional songs and tunes of Wales, England and beyond, and the social history and folklore that lies behind them. Their lively and sensitive interpretations of old songs of madness, love, death, adventure, injustice and everyday life (and some original compositions), with close vocal harmonies and a wide variety of instruments (including Appalachian dulcimer, fiddle, bouzouki, guitar, mandolin, whistles, pibgorn cwd, concertina, harmonica, shruti box and bodhrán), are earning them a strong following throughout Wales and the borders.
The name of Three Legg’d Mare hints at many things: the old way of life that moved at the pace of the horse, or perhaps the three members of the band, or maybe even the old goddess Epona, but it actually comes from something much grittier - the old gallows at Tyburn. A journey through physical and metaphysical worlds, history set to music, a lively pub session, past and present connected with a social conscience, an irreverent insight into past lives - Three Legg’d Mare is all of these and more.
Y GASEG DEIRCOES
Band o Aberystwyth yw’r Gaseg Deircoes sydd â diddordeb mewn caneuon ac alawon traddodiadol Cymru, Lloegr a thu hwnt, a’r hanes cymdeithasol a’r llên gwerin sydd y tu ôl iddynt. Mae eu dehongliadau bywiog a synhwyrus o hen ganeuon am wallgofrwydd, serch, angau, antur, anghyfiawnder a bywyd bob dydd (ac ambell i gyfansoddiad gwreiddiol), gyda harmonïau lleisiol agos ac amrywiaeth eang o offerynnau (gan gynnwys dulcimer Appalachiaidd, ffidil, bwsŵci, gitâr, mandolin, chwibanau, pibgorn cwd, consertina, harmonica, blwch shruti a bodhrán), yn ennill dilyniant cryf iddynt ledled Cymru a’r gororau.
Mae enw’r Gaseg Deircoes yn awgrymu llawer o bethau: yr hen ffordd o fyw a symudai ar gyflymder y ceffyl, neu efallai tri aelod y band, neu efallai hyd yn oed yr hen dduwies Epona, ond mewn gwirionedd mae’n dod o rywbeth llawer mwy garw - yr hen grocbren yn Tyburn. Taith drwy fydoedd ffisegol a metaffisegol, hanes wedi'i osod ar gerddoriaeth, sesiwn dafarn fywiog, y gorffennol a'r presennol yn gysylltiedig â chydwybod gymdeithasol, cipolwg amharchus ar fywydau'r gorffennol – mae’r Gaseg Deircoes yn hyn i gyd a mwy.
