Summary

A train the trainer's course for those who are already Carbon Literate and would like to design and/or teach their own Carbon Literacy courses. Completing a Carbon Literacy Train the Trainer course is one step towards becoming a certified Carbon Literacy Trainer.

This practical Train the Trainers course will equip you to deliver Carbon Literacy training. It is aimed at those who have already undertaken and passed a Carbon Literacy course.

Sessions run on the following Wednesdays: 4th Nov, 11th Nov 18th & 25th Nov. All sessions run from 10am-1pm.

What will you get out of the course?

An opportunity to learn how to deliver Carbon Literacy training with one of the most experienced Carbon Literacy Trainers. Caroline Harmon, a Carbon Literate Consultant, who has delivered Carbon Literacy training to more than 1500 people and written eight Carbon Literacy courses and a shareable Carbon Literacy course. She wrote the world’s first online Caron Literacy course.

  • The knowledge and skills you need to write and/or deliver Carbon Literacy training to any sector or audience.
  • The chance to build confidence in delivering Carbon Literacy training through opportunities to practice.
  • The chance to be part of a small cohort of Carbon Literacy trainers with opportunities to learn from each other and plenty of time to ask all your questions. Group size is limited to six so you get plenty of individual attention.

What does the course cover?

Session one (2-3 hours)

A self-study session consisting of reading the Carbon Literacy Standard and other key documents for trainers and completing a questionnaire (2-3hours)

Session two (3 hours)

  • Why Carbon Literacy
  • Storytelling on Carbon Literacy course
  • What makes a good trainer?
  • Presenting graphs

Session three (3 hours)

  • Learning Styles
  • Teaching the science of a Carbon Literacy course
  • Carbon Literacy accreditations for trainers and organisations
  • Ensuring your course meets the Carbon Literacy Standard
  • Resources for creating courses

Session four (3 hours)

  • Communicating climate change well with a wide variety of people
  • Supporting your learners to pass their Carbon Literacy course
  • Questions learners ask
  • Making sure your teaching is inclusive
  • Dealing with challenges

Session five (3 hours)

  • Practice teaching session. Deliver a section of a Carbon Literacy course and receive feedback.

What is the time commitment?

Sessions will run on Zoom at the following times:

  • Wednesday 4th November, 10am-1pm
  • Wednesday 11th November, 10am-1pm
  • Wednesday 18th November, 10am-1pm
  • Wednesday 25th November, 10am-1pm (practice teach session)

You need to attend all sessions to complete the course.

This course consists of three elements:

1. Pre Course Work. Reading and self-study to be completed before the course begins. You will be provided with all the materials you need to do this. 2-3 hours

2. Three online training sessions, each 3 hours long and running from 10am-1pm. These sessions will be interactive and include a mixture of theory, activities and opportunities to practice the skills you'll need to deliver a Carbon Literacy course. 9 hours in total on Zoom

3. Practice teaching session. An opportunity to deliver a section of a Carbon Literacy course and receive feedback from the tutor and your fellow learners. You'll also offer feedback to other learners on their practice teaching sessions. Running from 10am-1pm. Prep time (approx. 2 hours) plus up to 3 hours on zoom

Who will lead the course?

The trainer for this course is Caroline Harmon. Caroline, a Carbon Literacy Training Consultant, has delivered Carbon Literacy to more than 1500 people over the last five years. She has written and had accredited eight different versions of Carbon Literacy, including the world's first online course in 2020 and the world's first shareable course in 2025. She has also delivered several CLP toolkit courses. Caroline has worked in the environmental sector for almost 25 years with a particular focus on climate change. www.carolineharmon.com.

This course is suitable for people who have already successfully completed an accredited Carbon Literacy course and are certified as Carbon Literate.

Completion of this course can be used to support an application to become a certified Carbon Literacy Trainer. The course does not lead to a certificate by itself, but it is recognised by the Carbon Literacy Project.
