Understanding Blueprints & Construction Documents

No two homes are alike and while there are common elements there are no absolutes and as such all homes may not have the same components or construction details. To understand if a home is properly constructed you must learn to read and understand blueprints.  Blueprint reading is not difficult, but it does require practice and some basic knowledge of blueprints. Understanding and reading blueprints is essential for home inspectors who are or plan on conducting pre-drywall inspections.

This  blueprint reading course is designed to provide you with foundational knowledge and hands-on practice so you can confidently interpret and understand construction plans. 

Course outline

• Have an elementary knowledge of blueprint reading as it relates to building construction projects.
• Understand in general terms the design process and the role of design professionals.
• Be able to find trade information using blueprints.
• Be able to answer basic construction questions related to the layout and installation of materials at the job site.
• Be able to relate blueprint information to the physical location in the home.

Jeff Clair is a Florida State Licensed General Contractor, Roofing Contractor, Underground Utility & Excavation Contractor, Mechanical Contractor, Residential Pool & Spa Contractor, Standard Building Code Inspector and Florida Certified Home Inspector.
