Event summary and key information

The Remember Nature 2025: Nature Remembered Walk will be led by artist Yu-Chen Wang, and is supported by Castlefield Gallery, along with many other collaborators and partners. The walk forms part of a national programme, Remember Nature 2025, that takes place on 4 November 2025, marking a decade since the celebrated artist Gustav Metzger put out a call to “Remember Nature” and “make a stand against the ongoing erasure of species."

What to expect from the walk

On the day, we will meet at Manchester Art Gallery’s Derek Jarman Pocket Park. The event will start promptly at 12.30pm and we will leave Manchester Art Gallery at approximately 1pm or before. Following a warm welcome from Castlefield Gallery, Manchester Art Gallery, and artist Yu-Chen Wang, we will set off together down the canal towpath towards Castlefield, where there will be a brief stop at Castlefield Gallery. We will then continue to our final destination of Hulme Community Garden Centre (HCGC). The aim is to be at HCGC just ahead of 3pm. The walk, led by Yu-Chen, will be undertaken at a moderate pace to make time for exploring Manchester’s ever-changing landscape: the natural environment, layers of histories, and the legacy of industry. Yu-Chen will encourage all taking part to slow down, connect with nature, and look beyond crisis, to ignite ideas and ask ourselves more positively, ‘what can we do together?’ In the artist’s own words, the idea is for “people to remember to remember nature”. If you want to continue into Hulme Community Garden Centre for the Remember Nature 2025: Nature Remembered Gathering (3-5pm on 4 November 2025), you need to book a free ticket for that part of the day through a separate booking link here

Access

The walk will be suitable for some wheelchair users; There is wheelchair access to the Derek Jarman Pocket Park from Nicholas Street.

You can read a detailed wheelchair access guide by Sally Hirst here
There is also an easy read version available here

We envisage that the walk from the Derek Jarman Pocket Park to Hulme Community Garden Centre will take around two hours. We will offer a toilet break around halfway along the walk. The route is step-free with some slopes of up to 8 degrees. Part of the route is along the canal towpath.

Please note that it will go dark while we are Hulme Community Garden Centre; there is lighting but it is not super bright.

We will be using covered outdoor spaces - we will do our best to make them warm and dry but please dress for the weather!
