Are you on Archers Addict?

Do you listen to the Afternoon Play and other dramas on BBC Radio?

Or perhaps audio drama podcasts on other platforms?

Ever wondered what it would be like to be in a radio play?

This is a practical introduction to how radio drama is made, with plenty of chances to have a go and practice the techniques used in the production of professional radio drama.

This workshop is an introduction to the weird and wonderful world of audio drama, featuring playful exercises for all participants.

For all fans of audio drama, amateur performers or professional actors with little or no experience of radio drama.

Stefan Escreet runs Ragged Edge Productions, he was Associate Director at Theatre by the Lake for many years.

Stefan is a freelance audio drama producer and director who was a BBC Radio Drama Producer working on programmes across the Radio 4 schedule.

He has incorporated these skills into the work of Ragged Edge Productions with a string of entertaining radio plays on stage.

This workshop is the perfect companion to The Mystery of the Pirate Lagoon - a comic radio play on stage from Ragged Edge Productions. (Touring again in autumn 2026). Stefan has also produced several Audio Adventure projects with residents of Maryport. Participants learned some of the skills we look at in the workshop.

Here’s a link to a short promo film about the last project in 2024 Maryport Works, about the history of the promenade and ‘Down Street’.

Workshop testimonials:

"The skills Stefan taught us, the practical elements. When we were doing some setting up for a scene to record, I said to another attendee, this is absolutely great.

It was poles apart from a 'regular' Saturday - it was different, exciting and fun. I would definitely do it again, for sure.” Paul - Arts Out West Workshop

"Thank you so much for your hard work and help. I found the course really helpful and inspirational." Emma - online workshop

"I loved the Workshop - every aspect of it. Such fun! Thank you for making it so entertaining." Sarah - Leeds Workshop

"I thought your workshop yesterday was great; thank you!I have always found radio a wonderful medium; and it was very interesting to learn some of the principles behind radio work. I would certainly be interested in a follow-up workshop!" Jeremy - Shropshire Drama Company
