Brimful of Asia
Pratibha Parmar, UK, 24:00, English
This riveting documentary explores the explosion of 2nd Generation South Asian talent in mainstream British culture in the late 1990’s and features musicians Talvin Singh, Asian Dub Foundation and Cornershop as well as fashion designers and writers.
Following this screening Pratibha will be in conversation with designer Zain Ali of ZN ALI. Zain holds a degree in Religion, Philosophy and Ethics, with a postgraduate degree in Law. The designer left his home country, Pakistan, at the age of five. The conception of his label, ZN ALI, began with the keen perusal of the evolution of clothing in his own family, that led him to archiving his history. Zain is also currently showing his exhibition Nisbet Road Tailor Shop as part of Bradford UK City of Culture. The exhibition's final weekend coincides with the film festival and is free to visit.
