About
Join us for a hands-on, two-part interactive assembly designed to move us from isolated actions to a collective force.
People across our region are already taking action, in ways both big and small, to care for the land, rivers, businesses and communities that make up the catchment. Imagine what could happen if we joined forces to spark a truly ambitious, long-term movement for change? This event invites us to start building that momentum by asking:
- What is already happening in the Leven Catchment?
- How can these separate parts become a greater whole?
- How can we collectively contribute to creating what is needed to ensure long-term support for our thriving landscape and communities?
Part 1 - The Catchment Café: Over a nice cup of coffee or tea, the assembly will start by gathering an overview of the work and actions we know are already underway in the Leven Catchment area – a region where water, land and communities are held in one coherent living system and when actions by one part create ripple effects on others. We’ll zoom out to get a birds-eye view of all the inspiring activities happening right now, and ask: ‘What patterns emerge? What gaps remain if our food systems, ecosystems, local economies and communities are to thrive?’
Part 2 - Where do we need change? In the second half we will dig deeper into the root causes of our current situation, before asking how these could be transformed for the better and what our role in that could be. We will physically map the status quo with materials, before literally shifting those elements to construct the collective futures we aspire to. We’ll consider: ‘What is the first step we can make? What are the most fundamental shifts that need to be made? And what roles can we take to make that happen?’
This is the first-ever Catchment Assembly. It is hopefully the start of something that can help us rise together to the challenges that no one individual or initiative can make alone. The Leven Catchment Collective has some funding and capacity to help take things forward that emerge.
After the Catchment Assembly, our Evening Gathering will take place at the same venue, 252 Memorial Hall. It will be an evening celebrating the stories, memories and producers that shape the Leven Catchment, with a film screening, delicious supper, and local art by the youth of the catchment and by local artists. About the Catchment Festival
This event is part of the 'Catchment Festival: A Day Along the Leven Catchment'. From dawn til dusk on the 17th October, you can join us for a day of walks, food, art, ecology, stories and conversations celebrating the landscape shaped by water and the people who call it home. Beginning as the landscape wakes and ending around a shared table, the Catchment Festival invites you to slow down, listen, explore, create, eat and imagine the future of the catchment together.
